The adorable kitten strays into your workplace. No one wants to throw it out, so it does not take long and it is being fed, watered, and slowly becomes a pet. A pet that has been given a bathroom (cat box), and that waits for breaks and lunch to receive some tidbits from the employees - even the so called cat haters.
After several months of coaxing, the kitten allows itself to be petted and eventually picked up to sit on the laps of its caretakers (many different employees). One day, many months later a fresh delivery of cat pooh is found in the work area. The manager decides the cats have to go.
Notice it is now cats - the work place has several cats roaming the areas, but these other cats are recluse and evasive. Yet, all the cats will pay the price for one miss-delivered pile of pooh! The animal rescue squad is called and the first cat to go is the friendly and lovable kitten that has become a source of goodwill and caring. To this day the wild cats are roaming free, avoiding the traps, and leaving their pooh wherever they feel the need.
Is this your culture - bring employees in and give them the illusion that you care, label employees even if they are not the actual offenders, punish all for the sins of the few, allow the "Pooh" droppers to remain in the organization, do not recognize good work behavior, and managers make decisions on a whim.
PS - None of the employees knew that the cats were on the way out the door. The friendly kitten was rescued by an employee at the cost of $54 the next day - if he would have known about the situation the kitten would have been removed in pleasant fashion instead of being put in a cage and then spending the night in the pound. Is this your culture - lack of communication that leads to pain, suffering, and wasted money.
